John PenneKamp - Key Largo

Saturday 4/2/11...Group(11 kayakers) paddling around(Total distance 12 miles) El Radabob Key in John PenneKamp State park in Key Largo,FL.



Swells are created often by the power boats passing by.....


One of our group member's kayak tipped over.... but he managed to climb back quickly...

Sanible Island - Tarpon Bay

Saturday 26th Feb

Magical morning sky over Sanibel Island.....


Famous light house of Sanibel....built in 1884....


Crab washed ashore....


Star fish......


Sanibel beaches are known for Sea shells.....

Our Souvenior from the Sea....





Fallen trees along the trail....

The mangrove roots are so long ...looking like a Banyan tree...

Blue heron.....


The rookery(small mangrove island where birds nest) was full of wading birds....

Cayo Costa State Park

Friday Feb 25th...

Starting Point....destination is 6 miles across the bay


Cabbage Key at the horizon...


Strange sea-creature....never seen this before...


Approaching Useppa Island.....


Reached the destination at 12:30pm...


Small mangrove island...providing the much needed shade...


Wind picked up...


Look closely..there is a jumping fish(tarpon)..

Reached the starting point at 3pm thanks to the 13mph wind on our back...

Rookery Bay near Naples,FL


Super moon brought lot of tidal action to the bay...this is at low tide....

Calm morning bay with no boats around......


Look closely.....You can count 3 dolphins...


Rookery Bay...home of lot of bird species.....



Spoonbills feeding off of a Oyster bar....

Great blue heron.....

Key Biscayne Island - Circum-navigation




Started early...around 6:30 am


Under the bear cut bridge
(this connects Key Biscayne with mainland)


The current was swift through the bear cut channel.


Reef formation along the shore


looking like a plastic bag...this is called man-of-war...dangerous to touch...causes severe allergic reaction in humans...



Pelicans in a sand bar...



Franklin's Gull...


It got windy.....waves got stronger....


The upper north east side of the Key Biscayne island got lot of shallow areas...here is one with the Island on the background

This light house has been standing on the south east corner of the Island for more than a century...


Some sort of sailing class going on .....


Wind picked up on the way back....bay got really rough....landed around 1 pm
